NORTHVILLE, Mich. – Now that's how you start conference play! Macomb Softball improved to 6-6 overall and started MCCAA Eastern Conference play 2-0 after run-ruling the host Ocelots of Schoolcraft College twice on Tuesday (March 19). The Monarchs won the opener, 13-1, before taking the nightcap by a 19-7 final to outscore the Ocelots by a 32-8 margin in the league-opening twin bill.
Allison Vogt (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) held the Ocelots to one run on four hits and struck out seven to earn her second win of the season in the opener while
Grace Dzikowski (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) earned win No. 3 in the circle in game two.
Sydney Urban (Warren, Mich./Regina) connected on a home run and double in each game to highlight an impressive day at the plate for the Monarchs, while
Ally Prasnjak (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) was one of five Monarchs to drive in a pair of runs in the opener. Fellow sophomores
Brynn Beyer (Chesterfield, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North),
Carleigh Bilpo (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II),
Haley Mitchell (Memphis, Mich./Memphis) and
Katelyn Thomas (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) joined Prasnjak with two RBIs each to help pace the 13-run on 13-hit effort in game one.
Urban's five RBIs ignited the game two 19 run surge on 23 hits, while
Chloe Cantin (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower) and
Kaycee Stang (Fraser, Mich.) joined in on the fun by driving in three runs each.
Savanna Clark (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) recorded two RBIs and
Lexi Murray (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) connected on a pair of doubles in the high-octane game two effort by the Monarchs.
The Monarchs host Oakland Community College for a doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m. and later welcome Henry Ford College to Warren on Saturday for a 1 p.m. first pitch., also a doubleheader.
