Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Defeats Johnson County, 88-77, Earns Program Record 29th Win of the Season

The Monarchs play Iowa Lakes on Friday (March 22) at 10 AM ET in the seventh place semifinals.

DANVILLE, Ill. – Nate Brown (Flint, Mich./Davison) poured in a team-high 20 points and Parker Day (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage/GVSU) followed with 19 of his own to pace the offense in Macomb's 88-77 victory over the Johnson County Cavaliers on Wednesday in Danville, Ill. With the victory, the Monarchs picked up their record-breaking 29th win of the season (29-4)—the most wins in a single season in program history.

Tuesday's victory also kept the Monarchs alive in the consolation bracket and showcased the Monarchs' resolve after a tournament-opening setback. The Monarchs will play Iowa Lakes CC on Friday (March 22) at 10 a.m. ET in the seventh place semifinals.

Leading 41-35 at the break and by as many as eight midway through the latter half, the Monarchs fought off a pair of comeback bids by the Cavaliers behind timely shots and key stops on the defensive end. The Cavaliers were able to regain the lead, 62-60, with just under 10 minutes remaining behind a 10-0 burst, but the Monarchs answered with a 14-4 run of their own to take a 74-66 lead with five minutes remaining on the second half clock.

The 14-4 run over the five minute span proved to be the difference late as the Blue & White held off the Cavaliers for the 11-point victory.

Brown's 20 points led the way as the sophomore guard shot 6-of-11 from the floor (2-3 3PM) to go along with five rebounds and a block. Day recorded 12 of his 19 points in the first half to help give the Monarchs a six-point halftime edge and knocked down a season-best four 3-pointers. The sophomore forward added eight rebounds and a pair of assists as part of an efficient effort.

Juwan Maxey (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) followed with a balanced stat line of 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists and Tymias Williams (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) checked in with 12 points, five boards and a pair of blocks.

Josh Hines (Macomb, Mich./Dakota/U-Indy) dropped in nine points and added four rebounds, while Justin James (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) and Tate MacKenzie (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) rounded out the top scorers with seven points and six points, respectively.
