MELBOURNE, Fla. – After a heartbreaking end to game one, a 3-2 loss in extra innings, Macomb Softball put their resiliency on display by responding with a 13-3 run-rule victory in five innings over Siena Heights University JV to split the day's action and move to 2-4 on the season.
The Monarchs will visit NJCAA Division I juggernaut and current No. 4 team in the country, Indian River State, Wednesday (March 6) for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
Allison Vogt (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) was dominant in game one, going the distance without giving up an earned run while striking out nine batters. Unfortunately for Vogt, John Melvin University—the day's first opponent—would get a couple runners on before a two-out miscue continued to the inning and ultimately sent the game to extras where the Monarchs dropped the contest by a 3-2 final.
Savanna Clark (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) and
Haley Mitchell (Memphis, Mich./Memphis) led the Monarchs with two hits each in the opener, while
Sydney Urban (Warren, Mich./Regina) and
Ally Prasnjak (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) each hit a triple. Clark hit a double as part of a three extra-base hit opener for the Monarchs.
Game two saw the Monarchs erupt for 13 runs on 13 hits in a five inning victory over the Siena Heights JV team. Clark paced the Monarch attack offensively with three hits, while Mitchell,
Carleigh Bilpo (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) and
Katelyn Thomas (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) followed with two hits each. Urban drove in a team-best four runs and connected on a double as part of a 1-for-3 effort while the combo of Prasnjak and
Brynn Beyer (Chesterfield, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) recorded a triple each. Prasnjak's game two triple was her second of the day and third in six games this season.
Beyer, Bilpo and Mitchell drove in two runs each in the 13-3 victory.
In the circle, game two belonged to
Grace Dzikowski (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) as the freshman picked up her first collegiate win after only allowing one earned run while striking out six across five innings of work.
