MELBOURNE, Fla. – Macomb Softball swept Thursday's (March 7) action at the Space Coast Games with an 8-0 run-rule victory in the opener over Rochester Community and Technical College and a 7-3 triumph over Calumet College of St. Joseph JV in game two. The pair of wins propeled the Monarchs to 4-4 overall on the young season ahead of Friday's spring trip doubleheader finale against Bryant & Stratton-Wisconsin.
First pitch for the doubleheader is slated for 2:30 p.m. at the Space Coast Complex.
In game one, the Monarchs scored at least one run in every inning on their way to an 8-0 run-rule victory in five innings over the Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjackets. Four Monarchs had two-hit games, led by
Katelyn Thomas (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) who connected on a double as part of a 2-for-3 effort with two RBIs.
Savanna Clark (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair),
Haley Mitchell (Memphis, Mich./Memphis) and
Ally Prasnjak (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) all drove in a run while going 2-for-3 at the dish, while Clark joined Thomas with a double of her own.
Sydney Urban (Warren, Mich./Regina) hit the game's lone triple, her third of the season, to round out the offensive leaders in game one.
Grace Dzikowski (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) impressed once again and improved to 2-0 in the circle after tossing a complete game shutout while striking out seven Yellowjackets.
In game two, the Monarchs used a six-run fifth inning to turn a 2-1 deficit into a commanding 7-2 lead in the latter stages of the contest.
Katelynn Fraser (Washington Twp., Mich./Eisenhower) got the nod in game two and held Calumet St. Joseph's JV to three earned runs and struck out two to pick up her first win of the campaign.
Prasnjak was on fire in game two, going 3-for-4 with a double and triple while driving home two runs and scoring two more in the win. The outstanding effort pushed Prasnjak's slugging percentage to .826 through seven games played this season.
Chloe Cantin (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower) went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored, while
Lexi Murray (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) tied Prasnjak for the team-lead in RBIs with two while going 1-for-3 with a double.
