WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Softball made the most of a beautiful day in Warren on Wednesday (April 10) as they took two from the visiting Henry Ford Hawks, winning game one in walk-off fashion, 3-2, and game two by an 11-7 final. The pair of wins lifts the Monarchs to 14-9 overall and 10-3 in the MCCAA East.
At 10-3 in conference play, the Monarchs currently sit a couple games back of Mott (11-1) and are ahead of third place SC4 by three games (7-6). The Monarchs are scheduled to visit Mott on Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
Grace Dzikowski (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) tossed another gem at home as the freshman right-handed pitcher limited the Hawks to two unearned runs on two hits while striking out nine in a complete game performance. Dzikowski's latest strong outing lifted her to 8-3 on the season inside the circle.
Sydney Urban (Warren, Mich./Regina) got the scoring started with a solo blast well over the wall in right field and
Ally Prasnjak (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) walked it off in the bottom of the seventh with a single down the right field line that brought
Lexi Murray (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) in to score from second for the game-winning run.
Game two saw the Monarchs plate four runs in the first and five more in the third inning to help ignite an 11-7 victory. Reigning MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Week
Katelyn Thomas (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) hit her second home run of the season as part of a 3-for-4 effort with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Prasnjak and
Kaycee Stang (Fraser, Mich./Fraser) also went 3-for-4 with a double each.
Carleigh Bilpo (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and
Brynn Beyer (Chesterfield, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) drove in a run and scored two more as part of a 2-for-4 performance that included a double.
Chloe Cantin (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower) rounded out the game two offensive leaders after going 1-for-2 with a clutch pinch-hit, two-RBI double in the third inning. Cantin's two-RBI double would stand as the game-winning hit in the nightcap.
Katelynn Fraser (Washington Twp., Mich./Eisenhower) got the start in game two and went the distance while striking out five to earn her third win of the campaign.
