FLINT, Mich. – Not their day. After battling tough and holding a lead late extra innings, Macomb Softball fell to first place Mott in Flint on Tuesday (April 16) by a 4-3 final in nine innings in the opener. Game two saw the host Bears take advantage of Monarch miscues on their way to winning, 6-3. The pair of losses sends the Monarchs to 14-11 overall and 10-5 in the MCCAA East.
The 10-5 league record positions the Monarchs firmly in second place as Schoolcraft follows at 8-8 and SC4 checks in at 7-8. The Monarchs host SC4 on Friday for a MCCAA East doubleheader at 3 p.m. and will follow that up with a home twin bill against OCC on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Grace Dzikowski pitched another solid game in the opener, holding the Bears to three runs on five hits and striking out five across eight innings of work.
Savanna Clark was a tough out in game one and paced the Monarchs with a 4-for-5 effort with a pair of stolen bases.
Zoe Hunt followed with two hits (2-for-4) while
Carleigh Bilpo and
Katelyn Thomas each hit a double. Thomas and
Sydney Urban drove in a run each in the narrow setback.
Clark continued her strong play in game two, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and another stolen base and
Kaycee Stang hit a pair of doubles as part of a 3-for-3 effort with two runs scored.
Ally Prasnjak drove in two runs on a sharply hit single to round out the game two leaders offensively.
Allison Vogt fanned six batters while only allowing three earned in the nightcap.
