DETROIT, Mich. – Macomb Baseball bounced back from a tough luck game one to post a 15-5 game two victory Saturday (April 13) against Schoolcraft at The Corner Ballpark in Detroit. The split gives the Monarchs a two-games-to-one lead over the Ocelots ahead of Sunday's season-ending doubleheader in Warren. First pitch for the conference twin bill is set for 1 p.m. at the Macomb Baseball Field.
With the split, the Monarchs ended the day 12-12 overall and 6-4 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.
Game one saw the Monarchs on the wrong side of several tough calls as
Ryan Sieler punched out eight batters on his way to a no decision.
Derek Ruiz hit a double and a triple in the opener as part of a 2-for-3 effort, while
Brady Krzciok went 3-for-3 with an RBI and
Riley Ames checked in with a 2-for-2 line in game one.
Game two saw the Monarch bats erupt for 15 runs on 13 hits as
Ty Stepek led the charge with five RBIs after hitting his first Macomb home run to go along with a double and two runs scored.
Ryan McKay tied Stepek with a 3-for-5 game two line and added two RBIs and run scored, while Krzciok continued his phenomenal sophomore season by going 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the nightcap.
Alex Mendes and
Dane Richards hit a double each and Ruiz connected on his team-leading fourth triple of the season in the 10-run win.
Oliver Barkal got the start and the win to move to 3-0 on the season while
Dominic Miller and
Ethan Miller combined for 2.1 innings of no-hit ball in relief.
