WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Softball cruised from the opening pitch on Friday (April 19) on their way to earning a sweep over the visiting Skippers of St. Clair County Community College. The Monarchs won in five innings in each game, topping the Skippers by an 8-0 final in the opener and a 14-4 tally in the nightcap.
The pair of wins lifted the Monarchs to 16-11 on the season and 12-5 in the MCCAA East. The Skippers fell to 12-21 overall and 7-10 in conference play.
GAME ONE: Macomb 8, SC4 0 (F/5)
The Monarchs scored in four out of five innings in game one and were ignited offensively by a first inning
Katelyn Thomas two-RBI single up the middle that plated
Savanna Clark and
Ally Prasnjak. After extending their lead to 4-0 in the third, the Monarchs walked it off in the fifth by driving home four runs in the frame to earn the run rule victory.
Brynn Beyer—who hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to put the Monarchs in front 4-0—got the scoring started in the fifth frame with a two-RBI double down the left field line that brought Thomas and
Spencer Olesky in to score.
Zoe Hunt tripled to left field to drive in Beyer and later scored the walk-off run as
Kaycee Stang ended game one with a sharply-hit single off the center field wall.
Grace Dzikowski got the game one start in the circle and went on to earn her ninth win of the campaign after striking out eight Skippers across five innings of work.
Thomas (3-3, 2 RBI, R) and Hunt (2-3, 3B, RBI, 2 R) recorded multi-hit games while Beyer paced the team in RBIs with three (1-2, 2B, 3 RBI, SF, R).
GAME TWO: Macomb 14, SC4 4 (F/5)
Game two saw the Monarchs score early and often on their way to posting 14 runs on 15 hits in the 10-run, five inning victory. The Monarchs took advantage of six Skipper miscues to help close the game out in run rule fashion.
Allison Vogt got the nod in game two and went on to earn her fourth win of the season after fanning four batters.
Offensively, five Monarchs tallied multi-hit games, paced by a perfect 3-for-3 effort from
Haley Mitchell. The sophomore capped off her perfect game two line with a fifth inning double (3-3, 2B, RBI, 3 R).
Savanna Clark joined Mitchell in the three-hit club with a 3-for-4 performance (3-4, 3 R), while
Katelyn Thomas maintained her red-hot pace with three RBIs on a 2-for-4 effort with two runs scored.
Carleigh Bilpo went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs driven in and
