WARREN, Mich. – The pitching was stellar and the bats were dialed in as Macomb Softball swept the visiting Oakland Community College Raiders on Saturday (April 20) with a pair of five inning, run rule victories. One day after run-ruling the SC4 Skippers twice, the Monarchs cruised to an 8-0 win in game one and a 10-0 triumph in game two. The pair of five inning wins lifted the Monarchs to 18-11 overall and 14-5 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference, two-and-a-half games back of first place Mott.
The Monarchs will be off from game action Sunday before hitting the road for Marysville City Park to make up a single 7-inning contest against SC4 on Monday (April 22) at 5 p.m.
GAME ONE: Macomb 8, OCC 0 (5 Inn.)
Katelyn Thomas got the scoring started with a first inning sacrifice fly and capped game one off with a three-run blast in the fourth that bounced off the top of the wall in the power alley of left center in the Monarchs' 8-0 win in five innings.
Brynn Beyer connected on a two-run shot in the third and
Carleigh Bilpo drove in a run to complete the scoring in the opener.
Savanna Clark posted a game-high two hits (2-3, R) while Thomas went 1-for-2 with four RBIs and Beyer was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Bilpo drove in a run as part of a 1-for-3 effort while
Grace Dzikowski dazzled in the circle to earn her 10
th win of the campaign.
Dzikowski had the Raiders off balance throughout the five inning affair on her way to tossing a one-hitter while striking out six batters.
GAME TWO: Macomb 10, OCC 0 (5 Inn.)
Brynn Beyer continued her impressive homestand by helping put an exclamation point on the game two win with a fourth inning solo shot that brought the score to its final, 10-0. A few batters earlier,
Ally Prasnjak connected on her sixth home run of the season, also a solo shot, on a no-doubter over the center field wall.
The home runs by Beyer and Prasnjak capped off perfect game two efforts for both as Beyer went 3-for-3 and Prasnjak was 2-for-2.
Chloe Cantin was responsible for the lone other extra-base hit of game two, a first inning RBI double that made the score 5-0 after the opening frame.
Allison Vogt earned win No. 5 on the season after striking out five to culminate a pair of shutouts for the Monarchs.
