BY THE NUMBERS: 11
What a week for Macomb Baseball! The Monarchs kept pace in the MCCAA East race and inched closer to the program's first NJCAA Region 12 playoff appearance since 2018 after taking three out of four over the weekend against Mott (four out of five overall this season). The great weekend lifted the Monarchs to
11-5 in conference play, 17-13 overall.
BY THE NUMBERS: 3
There's no denying
Brady Krzciok is one of the best hitters in all of junior college baseball...and there's stats to back it up. Krzciok is in the top
three (3) nationally in NJCAA DII in every 'slash line category' as he is third in batting average at .506, tied for first nationally in on-base percentage at .611 and is third in slugging percentage at .904.
ANOTHER BIG SERIES AHEAD
Another huge MCCAA East series is ahead as the Monarchs begin a four-game set against the Henry Ford College Hawks at home on Friday (2 PM). The season series will conclude on Monday at Hamtramck Stadium with a 2 PM first pitch. After winning the single 9-inning game by an 11-6 final, a weekend series win would go a long way toward the Monarchs' chase to clinch a playoff spot.
IMPRESSIVE AT THE PLATE
Four Monarchs are hitting above .400 this season (min. 40 at-bats), led by the aforementioned
Brady Krzciok's slash line of .506/.611/.904 and his 1.515 OPS to go along with eight home runs, nine doubles and 33 RBIs.
Ty Stepek is next with a .440 average, while
Derek Ruiz and
Riley Ames check in at .414 and .413, respectively.
Dane Richards (.392),
Dylan Pawenski (.382) and
Ryan McKay (.373) follow closely.
MILLER AND RICE SOLID IN RELIEF
While we could highlight several others, the recent pitching from right-handed relievers
Ethan Miller and
Brandon Rice has been massive for the Monarchs. The steady bullpen options have impressed as of late as Miller came on to hold Mott scoreless over 1.1 innings pitched in a critical win, while Rice struck out four over 2.2 to earn the 'W' in the same contest.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
A memorable day for
Hector Jaimes! The Wayne State transfer was the definition of "in command" on Sunday as he threw only 12 balls on 62 total pitches in a five-inning shutout victory that included five strikeouts. The win was Jaimes' first at the collegiate level and resulted in the sophomore earning MCCAA East Pitcher of the Week honors!
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
When you hit .750, reached base at an 80% clip and slug 1.250 in a massive weekend series, you're likely going to end up with Conference Player of the Week honors...and that's exactly what
Brady Krzciok did as he led the Monarchs to a 3-1 week behind eye-popping numbers! Krzciok added a home run and three doubles while driving in five runs and scoring nine over the four-game week.
A LOOK AT: HENRY FORD
The Hawks of Henry Ford College enter this weekend's series with an 8-9 record in league play (14-16 overall) and remain in the hunt for a NJCAA Region 12 playoff spot. The Hawks and Monarchs have met once this season, an 11-6 Macomb win in Warren back on March 29. The win was Macomb's first over Henry Ford in the past eight meetings. Henry Ford enters the series with the third-best team ERA in the MCCAA at 4.65.
A LOOK AROUND THE MCCAA EAST
The Monarchs enter the week 11-5 in league play, 1.5 games back of first place Jackson (13-4) and 2.5 games ahead of Mott and Schoolcraft who are in a third place tie at 9-8. Henry Ford remains in the race at 8-9, 3.5 games back of a Monarchs team that is currently in the second and final Region 12 playoff spot available out of the MCCAA East.
