WARREN, Mich. – In what was their final scheduled non-conference tune-up of the season, Macomb Baseball earned a 12-6 win in game one and dropped a tough nightcap by a 3-2 final in extra innings at Cleary JV on Thursday (April 25). The split shifts the Monarchs' record to 18-14 on the season ahead of a critical four-game MCCAA Eastern Conference series with Henry Ford.
The series will get underway at home on Friday and is slated to wrap up on Monday at Hamtramck Stadium. Both doubleheaders are scheduled for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
Reese Rinna (Richmond, Mich./Richmond) was on fire Thursday, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs in the opener.
Nick Bosilkovski (Utica, Mich./Utica) got the start at third base and made the most of his time on the diamond with a 1-for-2 performance that included a clutch, bases clearing, 3-RBI double to the left center gap.
Alex Mendes (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI and
Owen Lamky (Chesterfield, Mich./L'Anse Creuse North) picked up his first collegiate win after tossing two highly-effective innings in relief. Lamky struck out three across his two innings of work and didn't allow an earned run.
The Monarch bats quieted a bit in game two until a late triple by
Jackson Cole (LaSalle, Ontario/St. Thomas of Villanova).
Dylan Pawenski (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica/Madonna Univ.) and
Ty Stepek (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Northern/GVSU) came on in the seventh for pinch hit RBI singles while
Dallas Gordon (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) posted a team-high two hits in the nightcap.
Tomorrow's adjusted home doubleheader, moved up from Saturday, will be streamed live but will not feature play-by-play coverage.
