BY THE NUMBERS: 3
Walk-off winner!
Brady Krzciok recorded a five-hit day and played the role of hero with a walk-off RBI single in the 11th to help Macomb top Mott, 5-4, on Tuesday (March 26). Incredibly, Macomb has now walked off Mott at home in
three (3) consecutive seasons and has won their past
three (3) home games against the Bears by identical 5-4 final scores.
BY THE NUMBERS: 3
Redshirt freshman middle infielder
Alex Mendes helped the Monarchs defeat Henry Ford, 11-6, last week thanks to a 3-for-6 day at the plate that included a team-high four runs driven in thanks to a double and a triple. With the three-bagger against the Hawks, Mendes lifted his team-leading total to
three (3) triples on the season.
LET THE FOUR-GAMES SETS BEGIN
Mother Nature has wreaked havoc as of late and could play a factor once again as the Monarchs begin the four-game series portion of the MCCAA East schedule. After the first round of single 9-inning games, conference play shifts to 7-inning contests as each team will play a four-game series against league opposition to complete the 25-game MCCAA East slate.
OFFENSIVE LEADERS
Brady Krzciok continues to lead the Monarch bats as the sophomore has slashed .489/.571/.872 with four home runs, six doubles and 17 RBIs.
Derek Ruiz follows with a .405 average, while
Riley Ames checks in at .381,
Ty Stepek sits at .371 and
Dylan Pawenski slugs .600 to go along with a .356 average. Pawenski and
Reese Rinna follow Krzciok in home runs with two and are tied for second in RBIs with 12.
KINGS OF THE HILL
While the offense has provided the fireworks, the Monarchs' pitching staff took over and helped lead the team to an undefeated run in the 9-inning games in conference action. Of note, four Monarchs have posted sub 3.00 ERAs with over seven innings pitched:
Dominic Miller, 1.08;
Hector Jaimes, 1.17;
Oliver Barkal, 2.20;
Ryan Sieler, 2.70.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore first baseman
Brady Krzciok was named the MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday (April 2). Krzciok earned his first league honor after helping lead the Monarchs to an undefeated week behind an incredible slash line of .727/.750/.818 to go along with five RBIs, including the walk-off winner vs. Mott.
PAINTING THE PLAYOFF PICTURE
The top two teams from the MCCAA Eastern, Western and Northern Conferences, along with the top two teams out of the (Ohio Community College Athletic Conference) OCCAC, qualify for the NJCAA Region 12 Tournament. The first weekend is hosted at the site of the higher seeds in a best two out of three game series, while the final four advance to Jackson for a double-elimination tournament to determine who punches their ticket to the NJCAA Division II World Series in Enid, OK.
A LOOK AT: JACKSON
The defending MCCAA Eastern Conference Champion Jets of Jackson College enter this week's four-game conference series at 11-13 overall and own a 3-2 record in league play through the five 9-inning contests. The Jets are anchored by a strong pitching staff that boasts a MCCAA-best 3.93 team ERA and 1.49 WHIP thanks in part to 189 total strikeouts. Offensively, the Jets check in with a .249 team batting average.
HOPING TO FLIP THE SCRIPT
The Monarchs won the first meeting of the season with the Jets, a 7-3 decision on March 19 that snapped an 18-game skid against Jackson dating back to 2018. Since game results have been recorded (2013), the Monarchs are 4-30 against the Jets and have not won a season series since the 2015 campaign, another streak they will look to snap this year.
