HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – Macomb Baseball continued its torrid pace in conference play with a pair of decisive victories on Tuesday (April 30) over Henry Ford at Hamtramck Stadium. The Monarchs improved to 22-14 overall and 15-5 in MCCAA Eastern Conference play after picking up a 9-3 win in game one and a 16-2 victory in game two.
At 15-5 in league play with five conference games remaining—all against SC4 later this week—the Monarchs are 1.5 games back of first place Jackson and 2.5 games ahead of third place Mott. The top two teams in the conference qualify for the Region XII Tournament.
The 15-5 league record also has the Monarchs within striking distance of the program's first conference title in nearly 30 years (1995). The Monarchs would need a strong finish to the regular season and some help from Mott in order to earn the historic title.
The Monarchs return to action on Thursday (May 2) at Sanborn Park in Port Huron against SC4. Thursday will feature a special 12 p.m. start time as the teams will resume their suspended game from March 30 where the Monarchs lead 3-0 entering the top of the sixth inning. A doubleheader will follow on Thursday before the two teams finish the regular season in Warren on Saturday with a twin bill beginning at 1 p.m. Sophomore Day festivities will take place at the conclusion of game two Saturday afternoon.
