BY THE NUMBERS: 66
Macomb Baseball swept their five-game season series with Henry Ford, a team a year removed from a deep run in the NJCAA Region 12 Tournament, by winning all five games in convincing fashion. The Monarchs reached double-digit runs in four out of the five games and posted a combined run differential of
66-16 across the five meetings.
BY THE NUMBERS: 30
New record alert! After erupting for seven home runs in Tuesday's sweep, the 2024 edition of Macomb Baseball set a new program record for home runs in a season! Through 36 games played, the Monarchs have hit
30 home runs, eclipsing last year's mark of 26 long balls.
Brady Krzciok leads the Monarchs with nine home runs.
IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS
At 15-5 in league play with five (4.5) league games remaining against SC4, the Monarchs are in second place in the MCCAA East, 1.5 games back of Jackson and 2.5 games ahead of Mott. The 15-5 record places the Monarchs two wins away from clinching a spot in the Region 12 Tournament and keeps the team in the hunt for a shot at the program's first league title since 1995.
LEADING THE WAY
Three Monarchs are hitting above .400 this season (min. 40 at-bats), led by
Brady Krzciok's impressive slash line of .495/.615/.884 and his 1.499 OPS to go along with nine home runs, 10 doubles and 38 RBIs.
Ty Stepek is next with a .459 average and .684 SLG%, while
Derek Ruiz checks in hitting .407 on the season.
Riley Ames (.393),
Dylan Pawenski (.387) and
Ryan McKay (.385) follow closely.
TOUGH ON THE HILL
While the offense has been rolling as of late, the pitching staff has been just as impressive as the Monarch hurlers held a talented Henry Ford team to three or less runs in all four games in their recent series. The starting pitching combination of
Oliver Barkal (4-0),
Hector Jaimes (2-2),
Dominic Miller (3-1) and
Ryan Sieler (3-0) all picked up wins in the series.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Another week, another MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Week award for Macomb Baseball as redshirt freshman OF/DH
Ty Stepek became the latest to earn the honor! Stepek helped lead the Monarchs to a 5-1 week (4-0 in conference play) by slashing .500/.500/.929 while driving in 10 runs off a double, triple and a home run!
MAGIC NUMBER & SCENARIOS
The Monarchs magic number to clinch a spot in the Region 12 Tournament sits at 2 entering this week's games. Two wins and they're in or one win and one Mott loss secures the spot (among other scenarios). Moreover, a strong finish to the regular season, coupled with one or more wins from Mott, could result in the Monarchs winning at least a share of the program's first championship since 1995. LET'S RESUME PLAY
The SC4 Skippers enter the week with a 3-28 overall record and a 0-20 mark in MCCAA Eastern Conference play. On Thursday, the Skippers and Monarchs will resume their suspended game from March 30 (Macomb leads, 3-0, Top 6th) at 12 p.m. at Port Huron's Sanborn Park. A traditional doubleheader will follow at 2 p.m. Thursday before the teams wrap up their regular season slate at Macomb on Saturday with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
NATIONAL LEADER
What a season it has been thus far for sophomore first baseman
Brady Krzciok! The Madonna transfer and future CMU Chippewa has been a tough out all season for opposing pitchers and is currently the only player in NJCAA Division II to be in the top six nationally in the following categories (rank): AVG: .495 (3rd), OBP: .615 (1st), SLG: 884 (6th).
