Memorable 2024 Season Comes to a Close in Region XII Tournament

The Monarchs won the program's first conference title since 1995 and returned the postseason for the first time since 2018 this season.

The memorable 2024 season for Macomb Baseball came to a close on Friday (May 10) with a pair of one run defeats at Jackson College. The Monarchs led 7-4 with six outs to go in game one before the Jets came back to win it, 8-7, in the ninth. Game two saw the Monarchs lose two separate one run leads in a narrow 3-2 setback.

Despite the losses, the Monarchs made history as the first team to win a MCCAA Conference Championship since 1995. The return to the playoffs in 2024 marked the first time the program was in the postseason since 2018.

Dylan Pawenski (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica/Madonna) went 3-for-5 with two doubles in game one while Brady Krzciok (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston/Madonna) and Ty Stepek (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Northern/GVSU) had two hits each. Krzciok doubled and Stepek hit a triple to round out the game one leaders offensively. The combination of Ryan Sieler (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) and Brandon Rice (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower/Madonna) held the Jets to three earned runs over a combined eight innings of work.

Game two saw the Monarchs plate two runs on seven hits as Ryan McKay (Macomb, Mich./Chippewa Valley) led the team with two base hits and Alex Mendes (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) tripled in his final game in the Macomb Blue & White. The pitching tandem of Hector Jaimes (Trenton, Mich./Western International/Wayne State) and Oliver Barkal (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier/Niagara) struck out nine batters with Barkal fanning five across his final three innings of work.
