DUNCAN, SC – Macomb Softball couldn't dig out from a slow start in a 6-4 setback to the Catamounts of Potomac State College to kick off NJCAA Division II World Series play on Monday (May 20) in Duncan, SC. Making their first trip as a program since 2015, the Monarchs took time to settle in and the experienced Catamounts—a team making their third World Series trip in as many seasons—went ahead by six runs early in the 6-4 decision.
The loss marked the Monarchs first setback since April 27. The Monarchs will now play in an elimination game Tuesday (May 21) at 5 p.m. against the loser of tomorrow's 1 p.m. contest between No. 2 Copiah-Lincoln vs. (15) Central Alabama.
Despite early struggles, the Monarchs didn't go quietly as the team posted a spirited rally and plated three runs in the seventh and had the game-tying run in scoring position before the Catamounts closed it out for the narrow 6-4 decision.
Allison Vogt (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) struck out seven and gave up three earned runs in her latest solid outing, while
Haley Mitchell (Memphis, Mich./Memphis) led the offense with two hits, a walk, and a pair of runs scored.
Katelyn Thomas (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) tripled as part of a 1-for-2 day with two walks and a run scored, and the trio of
Carleigh Bilpo (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II),
Zoe Hunt (Warren, Mich./Regina) and
Ally Prasnjak (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) all had a hit.
Sydney Urban (Warren, Mich./Regina) recorded the Monarchs lone RBI in the contest via a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.
