WARREN – A complete effort! Macomb Volleyball improved to 3-1 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference standings after an impressive 3-1 victory over the visiting Jets of Jackson College on Monday (Sept. 30) at the Sports & Expo Center. The win kept the Monarchs in a tie for second place in the early portion of conference play and sent the Jets to an even 2-2 in the standings.
The Monarchs were dialed in from the opening serve, leading 18-7 in the opening set before securing a 25-23 win. The Jets battled back to take set two, 25-23, before the Monarchs answered with a 25-22 win in the third and an emphatic 25-18 victory in the fourth set to remain in the early MCCAA Eastern Conference hunt.
Kaley Eller (Utica, Mich./Utica) led the charge for the Monarchs on her way to recording career highs in kills with 18 and digs with 11. The double-double marked Eller's best match at the collegiate level and sparked an impressive all-around effort for the Blue & White. Following Eller in double digit kills was
Jordan Pflaum (Shelby Twp., Mich./Lutheran High North) who continued emerge as an offensive leader with 15 kills. The fast-ascending freshman added seven digs to help lift the Monarchs to victory.
Paige Elliott (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Country Day) tossed up 40 assists on the Monarchs' 48 kills and added 19 digs, one shy of the team-leading 20 digs posted by freshman libero
Alexis Cunha (Richmond, Mich./Anchor Bay).
Ashlyn Cunha (Richmond, Mich./Anchor Bay) tied Elliott with 19 digs and added a team-best three aces and
Sophia Kulaga (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) added 11 digs and two aces to round out the Monarchs who posted double-digit stats in any category.
The Monarchs will look to move to 4-1 in conference play when they make the short trip to Auburn Hills on Wednesday (Oct. 2) to take on Oakland Community College at 7 p.m.
