Box Score WARREN – Four Monarchs reached double figures and nine tallied six-or-more points as No. 4 Macomb Men's Basketball used a balanced effort to cruise past Schoolcraft, 90-73, on Saturday (Jan. 11) in Warren. With the win, the fourth-ranked Monarchs improved to 14-1 overall and 1-0 in the MCCAA East.
Up six at the half, 40-34, the Monarchs pulled away to lead by as many as 23 points in the conference opener.
On Wednesday (Jan. 15), the Monarchs will host No. 20 Henry Ford at 7:30 p.m. The game against the Hawks will mark the fifth game of the season against a ranked opponent (ranked at the time of competition). Wednesday's contest will be the Monarchs' seventh overall game against a team who has appeared in the Top 25 at some point this season.
As for Saturday's league-opening victory, the Monarchs shot 46.6% from the field and over 40% from 3-point land while knocking down 25 free throws in the 90-point performance. The Monarchs forced 10 Schoolcraft turnovers and capitalized to the tune of an 11-0 points off turnovers advantage.
DaMaryon Fishburn led four Monarchs in double figures scoring with 16 points. The sophomore shot 50% from the floor and made 2-of-3 from downtown while adding six rebounds and two blocks in the conference-opening win.
Marlon Williams continued to round back into form and drained four 3-pointers on 50% shooting for 14 points.
Josh Hines added 12 points, four rebounds and three assists and
Jotham Nweke battled foul trouble to post 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.
The balance continued after the double-digit scorers as
Caron Williams checked in with nine points, while
Davion Guity added eight and
Lajuan Holloway tallied seven to go along with a game-high and career-high 12 rebounds.
Jalen Jenkins equaled Holloway with seven points and dished out a team-best four assists and
Malachi Irving rounded out the leaders with six points and six rebounds.
