WARREN – Macomb Women's Basketball outscored the visiting Henry Ford Hawks by a decisive 25-2 margin in the second quarter on their way to an 83-37 victory in Warren on Wednesday (Jan. 15). The massive second quarter gave the Monarchs a 51-17 lead at the halftime break as the Blue & White cruised to a 46-point win to shift their record to 9-7 overall and 1-1 in the MCCAA East.
Shooting nearly 50% from the field and a red-hot 44% from 3-point range, the Monarchs led from the opening tip and never looked back to pull even in the early conference standings. The Monarchs used a 46-16 points in the paint advantage, a 41-7 margin in bench scoring and a 20-2 edge in second chance points to earn the victory.
Sydney Garon led all scorers with 16 points on a 4-of-6 effort from downtown and a 6-of-11 mark overall.
Vanessa Galovich was next with 10 points and added three rebounds, while
Carissa Hankins and
Ruby Sandison followed with career nights. Hankins poured in career-high nine points on a 3-of-5 clip from 3-point land and Sandison tallied a career-best eight points and added four rebounds in the win.
Zion Harris equaled Sandison in the scoring column with eight and added a team-high six assists to go along with four rebounds, while
A'Liyah Forris and
Asiyah Jihad checked in with seven points each.
Nave'yah Knott had six points,
Faith Weick enjoyed a career-high with five and
Janiya McWilliams returned to the lineup with three points to accompany five assists and five steals.
Kelsey Ettel and
Ava Prasnjak rounded out the scoring with two points each.
Ettel's two points were her first at the collegiate level.
The Monarchs head to Flint on Saturday (Jan. 18) to take on the Bears of Mott Community College. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Ballenger Fieldhouse on Mott's campus.
