Volleyball Falls to East Leader SC4 in Four Sets

Monarchs drop hard-fought home conference tilt.

CLINTON TWP., Mich. – Macomb Volleyball battled but fell in four sets to league-leading St. Clair County Community College (SC4) on Wednesday (Oct. 1) at Chippewa Valley High School. The loss drops the Monarchs to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in MCCAA East action, while the Skippers advance to 12-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

The visiting Skippers took the first two sets via scores of 25-16 and 25-17. The Monarchs didn't go quietly, however, as the Blue & White became the first team in conference play to take a set from the Skippers when they won the third by a 25-23 tally. Set four was another close battle but the Skippers ended strong with a 25-21 victory.

Kara Beeker led the Monarch attack with nine kills and added two aces, while Jordan Pflaum and Kaley Eller added eight kills each. Korin Hutton registered 33 assists.

Defensively, Alexis Cunha recorded 18 digs, while Beeker and Sophia Kulaga tallied 13 each. Pflaum and Caryss Terry posted two blocks each to round out Wednesday's match leaders.

The Monarchs will travel to Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) this weekend for the Raider Challenge. Action gets underway Saturday (Oct. 4) with matches against Lake Michigan College at 2 p.m. and Waubonsee Community College at 6 p.m. On Sunday, the Monarchs will wrap up their westside trip with a 2 p.m. match opposite Kalmazoo Valley Community College and a 4 p.m. tilt against the current MCCAA Western Conference leaders, Southwestern Michigan College. All matches will be played at GRCC's Ford Fieldhouse in Grand Rapids.
