PIQUA, Ohio – The fourth-ranked Macomb Men's Basketball team suffered a 73-72 defeat on the road in the final second at Edison State Community College Wednesday (Nov. 12). The loss drops the Monarchs to 0-2 with their two losses coming by a combined three points and both coming via last second shots by the opposition.

The Chargers, now 3-1 with a win over No. 4 Macomb and a close loss to No. 2 Parkland, jumped out to an early double-digit lead before the Monarchs battled back to trail by one at the break, 39-38.

The second half was a back-and-forth affair with the Monarchs leading by as many as nine before cold shooting doomed the Blue & White down the stretch.

Donald Wilburn tallied 17 points, six rebounds and two blocks to lead the Monarchs. Caron Williams posted 15 points while Malachi Irving netted 10 points, all coming in the second half. Lajuan Holloway chipped in eight points and five rebounds. 

As a team, the Monarchs shot 29-of-59 from the field, 3-of-15 from three-point range and 11-of-18 from the free throw line. 

The Monarchs return to action next week at the SC4 Thumb Coast Tip-Off Classic. The tournament opens against No. 25 Bryant and Stratton (Wisc.) Thursday (Nov. 20) at 1:00 p.m. in Port Huron.
