SIDNEY, Mich. – No. 11 Macomb Men's Basketball cruised past the host Centurions of Montcalm Community College by a 79-59 final score on Sunday (Nov. 30) to improve to 4-3 on the season. With Sunday's win, the Monarchs were the only team to go 2-0 at the Montcalm Shootout.
Up 7-0 early, the Monarchs fended off a brief surge by the Centurions to take a 39-25 lead at the half behind a balanced offensive attack as five players recorded five-or-more points entering the break.
Lajuan Holloway accounted for half of the Monarchs' offensive production in the opening half with seven points and six assists in 15 minutes of play.
In the second half, the Monarchs nearly doubled their halftime advantage, leading by as many as 27 before securing the 20-point victory.
Holloway tied a career-high with 18 points, adding six assists and three rebounds in 30 minutes of action.
Donald Wilburn followed Saturday's 23-point effort with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and five rebounds and
Dante Wimberly eclipsed double digits points for the first time at the collegiate level with 11 on 4-of-7 shooting.
Wimberly added three rebounds and a pair of steals off the bench for the Monarchs.
Caron Williams chipped in with nine points, five rebounds and three assists, while
Tabari Howard accounted for eight points, six rebounds and six assists.
Jaylon Jackson hauled in six boards to accompany a six-point effort and
Malachi Irving checked in with six rebounds and five points.
Competition heats back up next week as the No. 11 Monarchs visit Lansing Community College—a team receiving votes in the latest national poll—on Wednesday (Dec. 3) at 7:30 p.m. The trip to Lansing is followed by a game at No. 24 Mid Michigan College on Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. The game at Mid Michigan will be played at Mt. Pleasant's Morey Courts Recreation Center.
