No. 11 Men's Basketball Earns Third Ranked Win of Season, Downs No. 25 Mid Michigan

Lajuan Holloway and Donald Wilburn combined for 45 points in the ranked road win.

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – No. 11 Macomb Men's Basketball earned another ranked victory on Saturday (Dec. 6), defeating No. 25 Mid Michigan College, 93-80, inside the Morey Courts Recreation Center in Mt. Pleasant.

With the victory, the Monarchs have won four straight and are now 6-3 on the season. The 13-point road triumph marked the third ranked win of the season for the Monarchs.

The host Lakers shot out to a 12-4 lead before the Monarchs settled in and regained the lead with a 10-0 run of their own. After each team enjoyed big spurts early, the first half would eventually end with a 37-34 edge in favor of the Monarchs as the Blue & White held the Lakers to a 23.8% effort from 3-point land in the opening stanza.

Both sides fired on all cylinders in the early portion of the second half before the Monarchs' defense took over the game in the 93-80 ranked victory. The Monarchs outscored the Lakers in the latter half, 56-46, and led by as many as 15 in the 13-point win.

After missing Wednesday's contest at Lansing, Lajuan Holloway returned in a big way, scoring a career-high 23 points, pulling down six rebounds and dishing out three assists for head coach Christopher Burns and the Monarchs. Holloway shot 9-of-16 from the floor and 3-of-4 from downtown to account for his new career-high effort.

Donald Wilburn was one shy of his career-high with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting. The sophomore guard also hauled in eight rebounds. Caron Williams registered 15 points and six rebounds, while Malachi Irving posted 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for his first double-double at the collegiate level.

The Monarchs shot 34-of-67 from the field, 7-of-18 from three-point range and 18-of-24 from the free throw line in the win. The Lakers shot 30-of-77 overall, including a 12-of-46 clip from 3-point range.

The Lakers were led by Amonti Green with 20 points.

The challenging non-conference schedule continues for the Monarchs at the William R. Bear/Dimond Bros. Insurance Tournament next weekend in Freeport, Ill. The Monarchs will open tournament play Friday (Dec. 12) against NJCAA DI No. 18 Moberly Area Community College. Tip-off from the campus of Highland Community College is set for 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT.
