Hines Surpasses 1,000 Career Points; No. 8 Macomb Secures Historic Back-to-Back Outright MCCAA East Championships

Redshirt sophomore guard Josh Hines became the seventh player in program history to reach 1,000 career points on Sophomore Night in Warren!

WARREN – Sophomore Night 2025 will go down in the history books for Macomb Men's Basketball as the No. 8 Monarchs cruised to a 77-58 victory over the Jackson College Jets to secure the first back-to-back outright MCCAA Eastern Conference Championships in program history. The win lifted the Monarchs to 24-4 on the season overall and 11-3 all alone atop the MCCAA East at the end of conference play.

The conference title and No. 1 seed out of the East sends the Monarchs to the Great Lakes District C Tournament where they will await the South No. 3 seed in the semifinals on March 6 at 11 a.m. at Mott Community College. A win would result in the Monarchs advancing to the District C Championship on March 8 at 11 a.m. against the winner of No. 10 Mid Michigan College vs. the West 3/West 4 winner.

Prior to the Great Lakes District C Tournament, the Monarchs will head west to Kalamazoo to compete in the 2025 MCCAA Men's Basketball Championship. The Monarchs will take on the MCCAA Northern Conference Champions, Mid Michigan, on Friday at 7 p.m. at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. The winner of that game moves on to face Western Conference Champion and host, the seventh-ranked Cougars of Kalamazoo Valley, on Saturday at 3 p.m.

As for Sophomore Night, the Monarchs honored the careers of four two-year players: DaMaryon Fishburn, Josh Hines, Jotham Nweke and Marlon Williams. Hines made the most of his Sophomore Night as the redshirt sophomore guard became just the seventh player in program history to tally 1,000 career points. Hines needed 12 to get to 1,000 and ended the night with a team-high 18 to join the elite club.

While Hines hit the 1,000-point mark, it was [Marlon] Williams who controlled the contest as the sophomore wing posted a double-double with 16 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Davion Guity and Nweke followed with 13 points each to round out the Monarchs in double figures scoring.

Caron Williams checked in with seven points, four rebounds and three assists, while Lajuan Holloway dished out a team-best and career-high six assists.
