LIVONIA – The lid was on the rim for No. 5 Macomb Men's Basketball as the Monarchs shot 32.7% overall, 0.0% from 3-point territory and 56.0% from the free throw line in a 49-48 road upset loss to the host Ocelots of Schoolcraft College. The loss sends the Monarchs to 19-3 overall and into a three-way tie atop the MCCAA Eastern Conference at 6-2 in league play.
The fifth-ranked Monarchs visit one of the other 6-2 teams the MCCAA East on Saturday when they travel to Dearborn to battle the 21
st ranked Hawks at 3 p.m.
After trailing most of the second half, the Monarchs rallied late and took a one-point lead with under 30 seconds to play after a split at the charity stripe. The Ocelots were able to draw a foul at the rim on the ensuing possession with four seconds remaining and made the most of their late opportunity by sinking both free throws to secure the win.
DaMaryon Fishburn paced the Monarchs with 12 points and 10 rebounds while
Josh Hines posted an equal offensive output with 12 points of his own.
Jalen Jenkins and
Caron Williams followed with nine points each and combined for nine rebounds.
