SANDUSKY, Ohio – The Monarchs posted 26 runs on 25 hits in a doubleheader sweep over the host Titans of Terra State Community College on Monday in Sandusky, Ohio. Game one went in favor of the Monarchs by a 13-1 tally in six innings while game two saw the Blue & White prevail by a 13-5 final.
With the pair of wins in Ohio, the Monarchs extended their winning streak to seven games ahead of Tuesday's (March 18) MCCAA Eastern Conference opener at Mott Community College. First pitch for the single 9-inning contest is set for 2 p.m. at Ernie Myers Baseball Diamond in Flint.
GAME ONE: Macomb 13, Terra State 1 (6 inn.)
The Monarchs rolled from the opening pitch as
Vincent Cowdrey hit a leadoff home run to kickstart a 13-run, 16-hit performance. The solo shot to open the game was Cowdrey's sixth home run of the season. In all, five Monarchs recorded multi-hit efforts in the opener as Cowdrey (3-3, HR) and
Nicholas Sandiha Jr. (3-4, 2 2B, RBI, R) led the way with three hits each.
Nathan Fidelino (2-3, 2 2B, RBI, R, BB),
Matt Hanneman (2-4, HR, 3 RBI, R) and
Aidan Miller (2-4, 2B, RBI, R) followed with two hits each.
Luke Babcock tripled and hit a sac fly as part of a 1-for-2 opener with two RBI, two walks and three runs scored, while
Dane Richards brought in two runs as part of a 1-for-3 performance.
Adrian Epps stole four bases and came around to score twice as the sophomore continued to apply pressure on the base paths this season.
On the mound,
Derek Neufeld cruised to his first win of the campaign by striking out six and only allowing one earned run on two hits in just over five innings of work.
GAME TWO: Macomb 13, Terra State 5
Evan Robinson fanned seven batters and held Terra State to one earned on one hit to pick up his second win of the season in game two.
Ryan McKay (2-5, RBI) and
Adrian Epps (2-4, 2B, 2 R) paced the offensive attack with two hits each, while
Dominic Cavacini (1-2, 2 SF, 2 RBI, R, BB) and
Buster Debol (1-3, 2 RBI, 2 R) each drove in a pair of runs to lead the RBI department.
Luke Babcock hit a sac fly and doubled in game two to continue his impressive sophomore season and
Riley Ames swiped four bags and scored three times to round out the leaders.
