DANVILLE, Ill. – Macomb Men's Basketball wrapped up the 2024-25 season in winning fashion on Saturday (March 22) with an 84-81 triumph over Davidson-Davie to claim fifth place nationally at the NJCAA Division II Championship. The win was the 30
th of the campaign and marked the first time in program history the Monarchs have won 30 games in back-to-back seasons.
Davidson-Davie, the No. 8 seed in the tournament, finished the year at 31-4 overall while the Monarchs completed their latest successful campaign with a 30-6 record.
Over the past two seasons, the 2025 Macomb Men's Basketball sophomore class—consisting of
DaMaryon Fishburn,
Josh Hines,
Jotham Nweke and
Marlon Williams—has amassed a two-year program record of 61 wins (61-10 overall) while also achieving the following:
- First back-to-back MCCAA Conference Championships in program history
- Two top seven finishes nationally
- Spent a grand total of zero days outside the Top 10 nationally during their time as a Monarch
As for Saturday's fifth place game victory, the Monarchs were on fire early and led by a staggering 56-33 tally at the halftime break. A 31-win team on the season, Davidson-Davie fought back and got to within one possession late, but the Monarchs made plays down the stretch to hold off the comeback bid and win in wire-to-wire fashion.
Hines finished with 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting (4-4 3PM) and was named to the National Championship All-Tournament Team following the contest. The redshirt sophomore guard became the fifth Monarch in the past three seasons to earn All-Tournament Team recognition at the national tournament after Tamario Adley, Jaylen Daughtery and Aidan Rubio earned the honor in the National Runner-Up campaign in 2022-23 and
Juwan Maxey earned the distinction in 2023-24.
[Marlon] Williams followed Hines with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting and added six boards and three assists, while
Jalen Jenkins recorded a game-high seven assists to accompany 10 points and five rebounds.
Nweke exited early after 13 minutes of action but still managed to post seven points, three rebounds and two assists and Fishburn battled through adversity once again to post five points and seven rebounds.
Lajuan Holloway finished just shy of double digits with nine points,
Davion Guity checked in with six and
Malachi Irving had five points and added eight rebounds.
Caron Williams rounded out the offensive output with three points and hauled in six rebounds in the season-ending win.
