MELBOURNE, Fla. – In the win column! Macomb Softball swept the competition on Thursday (March 6), getting in the win column with a pair of stellar victories. In game one, the Monarchs earned a dramatic 8-6 win in 10 innings over Williston State. Game two saw the Monarchs cruise to an 8-0 shutout win in five innings over Bismarck State.
At 2-6 on the season, the Monarchs will wrap up their spring trip Friday with games against St. Cloud Technical at 4:45 p.m. and Bismarck State at 7 p.m.
GAME ONE: Macomb 8, Williston State 6 (10 inn.)
The Monarchs posted 11 hits in the 10-inning triumph to open the day, none bigger than a bases-clearing double by
Paige Muehlbrandt in the top of the 10
th to secure the win. Muehlbrandt was one of four Monarchs with two hits in the victory, going 2-for-4 with a team-high four RBI.
Raegan Hemelberg drove in a run as part of a 2-for-4 effort with a triple,
Alexa Garofalo drove in a run of her own on a 2-for-5 opener at the plate and
Kailey Viviano went 2-for-6.
Grace Dzikowski struck out 11 batters and only surrendered three earned over six innings of work before
Madalyn Roberson came on in relief to earn her first collegiate win. Roberson tossed four innings of one-run ball to help the Monarchs pick up win No. 1 of the season.
GAME TWO: Macomb 8, Bismarck State 0 (5 inn.)
Roberson was back in the circle for game two and went on to post her best performance in a Monarch uniform with a complete game shutout win in five innings. The freshman right-handed pitcher scattered four hits and struck out five in five frames to earn her second win of the afternoon.
Impressively, the Monarchs recorded six doubles in Thursday's latter contest, two coming from Garofalo who went 2-for-4 with a team-best three RBI. Muehlbrandt drove in two runs and connected on a double as part of a 2-for-3 game at the plate and the combo Hemelberg and
Aubrey Rich joined the double parade while going 3-for-4 each. Roberson and K. Viviano accounted for the other doubles in the 8-0 win.
