MELBOURNE, Fla. – Macomb Softball wrapped up their time in Florida with a Friday (March 7) split, defeating St. Cloud Technical by an 11-3 final before falling late to Bismarck State, 6-4. The split shifts the Monarchs record to 3-7 at the end of their spring trip.
Riley McLaughlin and
Aubrey Rich led the Monarchs in game one with three RBIs each and
Alexa Garofalo drove in two runs in to highlight an 11-run effort. Rich tripled for the lone extra-base hit of the opener while McLaughlin's two hits led the team.
Paige Guinn came on in relief and earned her first win at the collegiate level after working four solid innings in the circle. Guinn held St. Cloud Technical to three hits across four innings and struck out two in the winning effort.
Game two saw the Monarchs take a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, but Bismarck State spoiled what looked like the finishing touches on another win with a five-run frame. The five-run inning would prove to be too much to overcome as Bismarck State held off the Monarchs in the seventh for a 6-4 win.
Garofalo recorded a team-best two hits in the nightcap, while
Raegan Hemelberg and
Paige Muehlbrandt hit a double each. Hemelberg knocked in two runs and Garofalo and
Rylee Lozen drove in one each.
