Great Lakes District C Champions! Men’s Basketball Punches Third Straight Ticket to Danville!

Back to Danville they go! No. 9 Macomb Men’s Basketball defeated No. 14 Mid Michigan, 73-65, to win the Great Lakes District C Championship and punch their ticket back to Danville!

FLINT – Macomb Men's Basketball is heading to the NJCAA Division II National Championship for the third straight season! The ninth-ranked Monarchs defeated No. 14 Mid Michigan, 73-65, to capture the 2025 Great Lakes District C Championship and punch the program's latest ticket to the NJCAA Division II National Championship.

The national championship will be held March 17-22 at the famed Mary Miller Center in Danville, Ill.

For the second time in as many games at the Great Lakes District C Tournament, the Monarchs had to battle back from a multiple possession deficit, this time erasing an 11-point Mid Michigan lead with a 14-0 run late in the first half.

Tied at the break, 33-33, after a great close to the opening half, the Monarchs made adjustments and took control over the game's final 20 minutes to earn the win.

Defense was the theme of the title-clinching victory as the Monarchs held a potent Mid Michigan offense to a season low 65 points.

DaMaryon Fishburn, the Great Lakes District C Tournament MVP, led the Monarchs with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting and added eight rebounds and two blocks. Josh Hines, a member of the All-Tournament Team, followed with 16 points, while fellow All-Tournament Team selection, Marlon Williams, recorded a stat-stuffing line of 10 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two blocks.

Lajuan Holloway came up big for the Monarchs, checking in with 10 points and five boards, while Jotham Nweke added seven points and eight rebounds and Jalen Jenkins tallied six points and six assists.

The Monarchs will find out their seed and opponent on Tuesday (March 11) at 3 p.m. when the bracket is revealed during the NJCAA Division II Selection Show. The selection show will be featured on the NJCAA's YouTube Channel.
