WARREN – The Monarchs held late leads in both contests before the visiting Henry Ford Hawks capitalized on walks and miscues to take both games on Friday (April 11) in Warren. Game one went in favor of the Hawks by a 5-4 final in nine innings of the scheduled seven-inning affair while the nightcap was won by the visitors in eight frames, 10-8.
The pair of losses sends the Monarchs to 15-13 overall and 5-6 in MCCAA Eastern Conference play. The two teams will wrap up their season series with a doubleheader at The Corner Ballpark in Detroit Saturday at 1 p.m.
Aidan Miller led the Monarchs at the plate with four hits, two of which were doubles, and three RBIs.
Adrian Epps paced a cast of six Monarchs with two hits on the day and tripled in a key spot late in game two.
Dominic Cavacini,
Vincent Cowdrey and
Ryan McKay all doubled as part of their two-hit day, while
Riley Ames and
Dane Richards also had two hits.
Ames laid down a sacrifice bunt in a suicide situation that scored Epps following his triple to extend game two.
Matt Dickinson was strong in relief, scattering two hits across three innings of work, while
Dominic Miller and
Jack Saputo each notched five strikeouts in game one.
