Monarchs Struggle at Home, Drop Two to Owls

The Monarchs will look to get back on track Thursday (April 10) when they visit Marysville City Park to finish their suspended doubleheader with SC4.

WARREN – The weekend continued to be unkind to Macomb Softball as the Monarchs dropped two games at home on Saturday (April 5), losing game one by a 17-1 tally and game two by a narrow 4-1 margin to the visiting Oakland Community College Owls.

The pair of setbacks drops the Monarchs to 5-7 in MCCAA East play.

Raegan Hemelberg produced the lone run in the opener with her first collegiate home run. The freshman outfielder was 2-for-2 in game one, while Alexa Yaklin went 1-for-1 and Riley McLaughlin went 1-for-2 to account for the team's four hits.

Game two was scoreless into the sixth inning when the Owls plated a pair of unearned runs to go ahead, 2-0. The Monarchs answered in the home half of the frame with an Aubrey Rich RBI single to center that scored Alexa Garofalo, but the Owls posted two more in the seventh to notch the 4-1 victory.

Rich paced the Monarchs in game two with two hits (2-for-3), while Paige Muehlbrandt and Yaklin each had a hit.

Grace Dzikowski fought valiantly in the circle and held the Owls to only two earned while striking out four batters.

The Monarchs will look to get back on track Thursday (April 10) when they visit Marysville City Park to finish their suspended doubleheader with SC4. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. with Macomb leading SC4, 9-8, entering the bottom of the sixth in game one.
