Five Reach Double Figures as Monarchs Roll Past Hawks, 94-54

A'Liyah Forris led five Monarchs in double figures scoring with 21 points.

DEARBORN, Mich. – Macomb Women's Basketball cruised to its first MCCAA Eastern Conference win of the season on Wednesday (Jan. 14), defeating the host Hawks of Henry Ford College, 94-54. The dominant win moves the Monarchs' record to 12-5 overall and 1-1 in MCCAA Eastern Conference action as they continue to receive votes in the NJCAA DII National Poll. 

The 94 points scored against the Hawks (2-10, 1-1 MCCAA East) marked the team's second-highest point total of the season.

The Monarchs trailed 8-4 early in the opening quarter before out-scoring the Hawks 11-6 in the final five minutes of the frame to lead 19-10 after one. The offense got into gear in the second as the Monarchs out-paced Henry Ford, 25-13, to take a 44-23 advantage into the halftime break.

Second half action saw the Monarchs stay hot from the floor as the Blue & White tallied 23 points in the third and 27 in the fourth to earn the 40-point victory.

Five players reached double-figures led by A'Liyah Forris, who scored a game-high 21 points to accompany five steals and three assists. MyKenzi Harris followed with 18 points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals. 

Janiya McWilliams recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Asiyah Jihad just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. 

Vanessa Galovich netted 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench. Hannah Tamou had nine points and a career-high 11 rebounds and  Ava Kilgore posted nine points on a trio of 3-pointers. 

As a team, the Monarchs shot 37-of-85 from the field, 11-of-28 from 3-point territory and 9-of-12 from the free throw line. 

The Monarchs are back in action Saturday when they host Mott Community College at Wayne State's Matthaei Center in Detroit. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
