Preview: Men's Basketball Remains at Matthaei for Home Games Wednesday and Saturday

The Monarchs host SC4 on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. before taking on OCC Saturday at 3 p.m. Both games will be played at Wayne State University's Matthaei Center.

WARREN, Mich. – The Macomb Men's Basketball team will continue their three-game homestand this week, hosting St. Clair County Community College at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 21), before wrapping up the week on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Oakland Community College. Both games will be played at the Matthaei Center on the campus of Wayne State University. 
 
Macomb is 9-9 overall and 2-1 in MCCAA Eastern Conference action after defeating Henry Ford College and Mott Community College last week.
 
A LOOK AT SC4: The Skippers split last week's action, falling at home to Oakland on Wednesday in the waning seconds, 76-75, before winning, 106-78, at Jackson College on Saturday. SC4 enters the week 10-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play. 
 
A balanced team offensively, the Skippers boast five in double figures scoring and are led by Chris McLavish's 14.8 points per game. De'Andre Terrell, who has tallied 14.1 points per game and a team leading 7.5 rebounds per contest, is next, while Kevin Tiggs (10.9 PPG), Wasir James (10.5 PPG) and Riley Hunt (10.1 PPG) round out the top scorers.
 
As a team, SC4 averages 79.2 points per game and holds the opposition to 77.5 per contest under fifth-year head coach Richard Field. 
 
A LOOK AT OCC: OCC is 14-3 overall and 2-1 in MCCAA East action after most recently suffering a 92-79 setback at home to Henry Ford College on Saturday. Despite the home loss, the Owls barely moved in the polls, shifting down one spot to No. 17 nationally this week.
 
The Owls are led by Jordan Wright, who averages 21.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Last season, Wright earned Third Team All-Eastern Conference and Eastern Conference All-Freshman Team honors. He was joined on the All-Freshman team by Nick Speiser, who is third on the team in scoring this year with 17.3 points per night. Aaron Chapman is between Wright and Speiser at 18.9 points per game.
 
The Owls, led by first-year head coach Jason Rushton, pour in 91.9 points per contest, which ranks fifth overall in the MCCAA. 
 
A LOOK AT MACOMB: Caron Williams scored a career-high 26 points and Keithan Gilmore added a career-best 19 of his own as the Monarchs defeated Mott Community College, 88-68, on Saturday in Detroit. 
 
The Monarchs were ahead 41-37 at the half before leading by as many as 22 points in the 20-point victory.
 
Joey Angok added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Tabari Howard stuffed the stat sheet with six points, eight rebounds and a career-best 11 assists. Malachi Irving chipped in nine points, Brighton Birangui-Booto posted five and Daniel Sotero-Martinez and Simon Stockwell had four each. 
 
Third-year head coach Christopher Burns' team finished the game with 23 assists.
 
The Monarchs never trailed in Wednesday's 79-73 win at Henry Ford and were paced offensively by Donald Wilburn with 17 points. Angok and Williams added 13 each, Gilmore checked in with 12 and Jaylon Jackson netted 10 in the road victory.
 
Williams leads the team in scoring at 13.5 points per game. Lajuan Holloway and Irving follow closely with 13.4 and 13.2 points per game, respectively. Howard leads the team in rebounding (6.7 RPG) and assists (3.7 APG). 
 
RECENT SERIES HISTORY: Macomb swep the season series with SC4 last year to extend their series winning streak to four games. The Monarchs narrowly defeated the Skippers in Port Huron, 76-74, before winning by an 85-62 margin in Warren last year. 
 
Against OCC, Macomb has won seven of the last eight meetings but split last year's season series. The Owls earned an 83-80 victory in Auburn Hills last season but fell by 20 at Macomb, 87-67.

UP NEXT: After wrapping up a three-game homestand Saturday, the Monarchs will travel to Wayne County Community College for a 7:30 p.m. battle on Wednesday (Jan. 28). They then will host Jackson College at 3 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 31) at Wayne State's Matthaei Center.
