ROME, Ga. – Macomb Baseball concluded the first leg of an extended three-leg spring trip with a pair of setbacks to ranked competition on Saturday (Feb. 21). No. 12 Catawba Valley broke open a 4-2 game with a five-run sixth inning for a 9-2 win and then NJCAA Division I No. 15 Georgia Highlands erased an early 6-0 Macomb lead to win in six innings, 16-6.
In game one against Catawba Valley,
Dominic Cavacini hit a two-run shot while
Zackary Grinde and
Evan Morrison each doubled to pace the offensive attack.
Game two action against the host and 15
th ranked Chargers saw Grinde remain hot with a grand slam—his first home run as a Monarch—as part of a 2-for-3 effort at the plate.
UP NEXT: The Monarchs head to Mattoon, Ill., Feb. 27-28 for four games against quality competition. The Blue & White open against the host and NJCAA DI No. 21 Lakers before playing two against Rock Valley College (Ill.) and one opposite South Suburban College (Ill.).
