DETROIT, Mich. – Macomb Women's Basketball earned its 20th win of the season Saturday (Feb. 21) at the Matthaei Center in Detroit as they took down Wayne County Community College District, 92-64.

With the win, the Monarchs improved to 20-8 overall and 9-4 in MCCAA Eastern Conference action while Wayne County fell to 10-14 overall and 3-10 in league play. The 20 wins is the most in the Kirk Carolan era and the most in a single season since the historic 2019-20 Macomb team that went 32-0.

Prior to Saturday's win, the Monarchs held their Sophomore Day ceremony and honored the careers of A'Liyah Forris, Vanessa Galovich, Asiyah Jihad, Janiya McWilliams, Jamiya Rogers and Ruby Sandison.

A back-and-forth opening quarter ended with Macomb holding a slim 18-16 advantage before the Monarchs erupted with a 29-point second quarter to take a commanding 47-28 lead into the halftime break.

The Monarchs remained hot in the third quarter and outscored the Wildcats, 30-11, to hold a 77-39 advantage with 10:00 remaining. The Wildcats ended strong, outscoring the Monarchs in the fourth quarter by a 25-15 margin to settle on the 92-64 final tally.

The Monarchs shot 45.9% from the field and 42.9% from beyond the arc. The defense forced 23 Wildcat turnovers and registered 11 steals as a team.

The regular season wraps up on Tuesday (Feb. 24) at Jackson College with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m. The same two teams will meet in the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes District A Championship on March 3 with the winner of Tuesday's tilt earning the right to host the postseason opener.
