COCOA, Fla. – A pair of games against tough competition resulted in two losses for Macomb Softball on Thursday (March 12) at the Space Coast Games in Cocoa, Fla. The Monarchs fell in the opener to Monroe University (N.Y.) by a 16-3 final before dropping game two to Iowa Central Community College by a 10-0 tally.
Highlighting the degree of difficulty on Thursday, Monroe is currently transitioning to the NCAA Division II ranks while Iowa Central is currently receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II poll.
The Monarchs end the day with a 3-5 overall record.
GAME ONE: Monroe Univ. 16, Macomb 3 (F/5)
The Mustangs came out firing on all cylinders and plated 11 in the second inning as part of a 16-3 decision. Miscues by the Monarchs defensively saw the Monroe lead balloon as four errors were committed in Thursday's opener, leading to half of the runs being unearned.
Jacqueline Asmar drove in a pair of runs on a 2-for-3 effort to lead the Monarchs offensively.
GAME TWO: Iowa Central 10, Macomb 0 (F/5)
The Tritons scored five in the third and five in the fifth to post a 10-0 win. The Monarch bats couldn't get going in Thursday's second game as the team only broke free for three hits.
Asmar,
Alexa Garofalo and
Allison Wineski all hit a single to account for the offensive output against the Tritons.
