WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Softball settled for a Sunday (March 29) split with the visiting Henry Ford College Hawks, winning game one, 8-3, before falling in the second half of the twin bill by a 5-0 margin. GAME ONE: Macomb 8, Henry Ford 3
The Monarchs jumped on top with two runs in the first and three more in the second on their way to an 8-3 victory in Sunday's opener. Errors by the Hawks helped pave the way as seven of the eight runs scored by the Monarchs were unearned.
The Monarchs amassed 11 hits to continuously apply pressure to the Hawks defense, led by four players with two-hit games as
Allison Wineski was a perfect 2-for-2 with a run scored and
Alexa Yaklin went 2-for-3 while coming around to score once.
Alexa Garofalo checked in with a 2-for-4 day with a double and a pair of runs scored, while
Aubrey Rich posted a 2-for-4 opener with two runs scored.
Kailey Viviano was 1-for-4 with an RBI single.
Ariana Wlodeck moved to 5-1 in the circle after tossing seven strong innings with four strikeouts. Wlodeck allowed two earned runs on the day and evened it out on the offensive end by driving in a pair of her own on a 2-RBI single.
GAME TWO: Henry Ford 5, Macomb 0
The bats went cold in game two as the Monarchs dropped Sunday's finale, 5-0. Madalyn Roberson was solid in the circle, only allowing three earned runs across seven innings of work. Run support never came for Roberson as the Monarchs recorded five hits in game two, a season low in conference play.
Rich and Garofalo each recorded a hit, while Addison Wodowski was 1-for-1 with a stolen base. Zoe Hunt went 1-for-2 and Maddie McKee went 1-for-3.
