TAYLOR, Mich. – Macomb Softball's losing skid hit six games on Saturday (April 11) after suffering a pair of setbacks on the road to the Hawks of Henry Ford College. The Hawks earned a comeback, 5-2, win in game one before defeating the Monarchs by a 9-6 final in Saturday's latter contest.
The Monarchs' record falls to 9-14 overall and 5-8 in MCCAA Eastern Conference action while Henry Ford moves to 9-13 overall and 5-9 in league play.
GAME ONE: Henry Ford 5, Macomb 2
The Monarchs held a 2-1 lead entering the the bottom of the sixth before the Hawks plated four to secure a 5-2 win.
Aubrey Rich led the Monarchs with a 2-for-3 opener that featured a pair of doubles, while
Samantha Consiglio and
Alexa Garofalo added an RBI each.
Zoe Hunt was 1-for-3 with a double and
Ariana Wlodeck got the the start and scattered six hits while only allowing one earned run in the loss.
GAME TWO: Henry Ford 9, Macomb 6
The Hawks used the momentum from their game one win to jump out to a 5-0 lead after two innings in Saturday's second game. After the Monarchs plated a run in the top of the third, the Hawks came back with a run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 6-1. The Monarchs found some offense in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs to get within one at 6-5. The Hawks closed the door from there, plating three more in the late stages of the game to earn a 9-6 win.
Consiglio hit her first collegiate home run with a solo shot in the third inning and Riley McLaughlin was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Addison Wodowski was 1-for-3 with a double and Wlodeck went 1-for-2 with an RBI to round out the leaders.
Madalyn Roberson tied her career high with six strikeouts in the circle for the Monarchs.
