Monarchs Snap Skid, Split With East Leading OCC

The Monarchs snapped a six-game losing skid with a 4-2 game one victory over the Owls.

WARREN, Mich. – The streak is over! Macomb Softball snapped a six-game losing streak on Sunday (April 12) against MCCAA East leading Oakland Community College. The Monarchs took game one of the makeup doubleheader by a 4-2 margin before falling short in Sunday's latter tilt, 8-5.

The split moves the team's record to 10-15 overall and 6-9 in MCCAA Eastern Conference action.

GAME ONE: Macomb 4, Oakland 2
Both sides traded a run in the first inning as Jacqueline Asmar got Macomb's scoring started with a RBI single to left to tie the game, 1-1, after one. The Monarchs went in front for good on a second inning RBI single to right field by Zoe Hunt and Kailey Viviano left no doubt with a 2-RBI double down the left field line in the fifth inning to give the Blue & White a 4-1 lead.

With the offense coming up with timely hits, Ariana Wlodeck and the Monarch defense held a high-octane Owls offense to two runs. The strong effort by Wlodeck propelled the sophomore to her sixth victory in the circle of 2026.

The Owls brought the tying run to the plate in the final frame, but an athletic grab in foul territory by freshman catcher Samantha Consiglio secured the win.

Consiglio, Viviano and Aubrey Rich all recorded two-hit games with Viviano driving in a team-best two runs. Asmar and Hunt were each 1-for-3 with an RBI.

GAME TWO: Oakland 8, Macomb 5
The Owls came out strong in game two and vaulted in front, 8-1, before the Monarchs battled back late behind a four-run sixth inning.

Trailing 8-5 entering the seventh and final inning, the Monarchs brought the game-tying run to the plate before the Owls closed the door for the Sunday split.

Consiglio and Allison Wineski posted two RBIs each, while Viviano continued her strong day with a 2-for-3 effort with two runs scored. Alexa Garofalo was 1-for-3 with an RBI to round out the game two leaders.
