Monarchs Split With Mott, Keep Pace in Playoff Race

The Monarchs took game one on the road to snap an eight-game losing skid to the Bears.

GRAND BLANC, Mich. – Keeping pace in the playoff race! Macomb Softball earned a road split against Mott Community College on Sunday (April 18) at Grand Blanc High School behind a strong game one performance. With the split, the Monarchs finished the day 7-10 in the MCCAA East and 11-16 overall.

The split allowed the Monarchs to keep pace in a tight race for a playoff spot out of the MCCAA East as the top three teams from the conference advance to the Great Lakes District A/B Championships at season's end.

GAME ONE: Macomb 8, Mott 3
The Monarchs plated five runs in the first and never looked back en route to an 8-3 victory in the opener. The win snapped an eight-game skid against the Bears dating back to March 2024.

Kailey Viviano got the scoring started with a three-run home run and Addison Wodowski added to the fireworks with a two-run blast of her own later in the frame to help the Monarchs take a 5-0 lead. The home run was Viviano's second of the season and the 15th of her Monarch career. Wodowski's home run was her first at the collegiate level.

The Bears cut the lead to two, 5-3, after a three-run third, but the Monarchs responded with three runs of their own the following inning to earn the 8-3 victory.

Viviano was 2-for-2 with two walks and drove home four runs via a home run and a double to lead the Monarchs. Wodowski was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs on her two-run home run, while Alexa Garofalo and Aubrey Rich drove in a run each.

Ariana Wlodeck worked her way to win No. 7 on the season after holding the Bears to six hits across seven innings.

GAME TWO: Mott 16, Macomb 8 (6 inn.)
The Monarchs went down 10-0 but never surrendered, eventually cutting the deficit to three at 11-8 before the Bears closed the game out with a 16-8 win in six innings.

Ryleigh Davis tripled as part of a 2-for-3 effort with two RBIs while Alexa Yaklin went 2-for-4 and drove in a team-best three runs. Allison Wineski rounded out the game two leaders with a double.

UP NEXT: Home vs. SC4 Thursday
The Monarchs will make-up a home doubleheader vs. SC4 on Thursday (April 23) beginning at 3 p.m. in Warren.
