Grinde, Meyette Highlight Game Two Win as Monarchs Secure Road Split

The Monarchs dropped game one, 7-6, before earning a 7-0 shutout victory in game two.

GRAND BLANC, Mich. – All winning streaks come to an end. Macomb Baseball's nine-game winning streak was halted at nine games with a narrow 7-6 setback in game one against Mott Community College on Thursday (April 2) at Grand Blanc High School. The Monarchs bounced back from the loss to post a 7-0 victory in game two behind impressive performances as the Blue & White moved to 16-11 overall and 6-1 in MCCAA Eastern Conference play.

GAME ONE: Mott 7, Macomb 6
In a sluggish game from the first inning, the Monarchs couldn't get going offensively until a three-run fifth inning tied the game, 5-5. Norberick Garcia would give the Monarchs a 6-5 lead with an RBI double to left center in the sixth, but the Bears responded with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win.

The Monarchs allowed two Mott runs to come in via error and squandered several opportunities on the base paths in the narrow defeat.

Brendan Przybycki got the start and settled in to allow three earned runs and strike out four in five innings on the mound.

Lochlan Stoudt led the Monarchs offensive with a pair of doubles as part of a 2-for-4 opener with three RBIs and a run scored. Peyton Rich was 2-for-2 and came around to score twice and Garcia ended the opener going 2-for-4.

GAME TWO: Macomb 7, Mott 0
Johnathan Meyette got the ball in game two and cruised to his best outing in a Monarch uniform with nine strikeouts across six scoreless innings of work to move to 3-1 on the season. Meyette scattered three hits, paving the way for the Monarchs' offense to take over and Zackary Grinde did just that with a two home run game to help lift the Blue & White to the 7-0 win.

Grinde belted a pair of bombs, both of the opposite field variety, for a five-RBI day and Vito Zito connected on his third of the campaign to lead the power department in the nightcap. Grinde's pair of home runs were No. 3 and No. 4 on the season. The sophomore outfielder/first baseman finished game two 3-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs scored. Zito was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Buster Debol and Aidan Miller joined Grinde and Zito in the multi-hit game category with two each.

Nicholas Stempnik took over where Meyette left off and worked a clean seventh inning, striking out all three batters he faced.
