Monarchs Sweep Skippers to Take Sole Possession of First Place in MCCAA East

The Monarchs improved to 28-15 overall and 14-5 in the MCCAA East with the sweep over SC4.

WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Baseball improved to 28-15 overall and 14-5 in the MCCAA East with a home sweep over the Skippers of St. Clair County Community College on Thursday (April 23) in Warren. The Monarchs won game one, 6-1, before posting a 12-5 game two victory.

With the pair of wins and a Jackson split against Mott, the Monarchs moved into sole possession of first place in the MCCAA East by one game.

GAME ONE: Macomb 6, SC4 1
Johnathan Meyette pounded the zone early and often as the sophomore right-handed pitcher earned his team-leading fifth win of the campaign after tossing a complete game and striking out six.

Meyette scattered five hits and didn't allow a run until the seventh inning.

With Meyette in control, the Monarch bats did more than enough, posting six runs on eight hits, led by two hits each out of Buster Debol and Aidan Miller. Brett Leonard had the lone extra-base hit of game one for the Monarchs with a sixth inning triple.

Leonard came around to score a team-best twice for the Monarchs in the win.

GAME TWO: Macomb 12, SC4 5
Leonard remained hot in game two and recorded his best game in a Macomb jersey with his third career home run and a pair of doubles to help lift the Monarchs to a 12-5 win. Leonard finished game two 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and two runs scored.

Miller picked up where he left off in game one with a four-RBI game, three of which came on a bases clearing triple.
Debol, Evan Morrison and Peyton Rich all had two-hit games with Rich connecting an RBI double.

On the mound, Jacob Turner struck out three across two stellar middle relief innings to earn his second win of the season.

UP NEXT: Friday at SC4
The Monarchs head to Sanborn Park in Port Huron on Friday for the final doubleheader of the season against SC4. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
