Monarchs Split With Hawks, Sophomore Day Saturday Up Next

Macomb wins the opener 7-1 before falling 7-2 in the nightcap.

WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Softball hosted Henry Ford College in the penultimate doubleheader of the regular season on Friday (May 1) in Warren. The Monarchs earned a split with the Hawks, winning the opener 7-1 before falling 7-2 in game two.

With the split, Macomb's record is now 18-20 overall and an even 14-14 in MCCAA Eastern Conference play. The Monarchs have locked up a playoff spot and will await results from around the conference to determine seeding. With one more win or Schoolcraft loss, the Monarchs will secure the East No. 3 seed and head to the Great Lakes District A bracket. The opening round opponent for the East No. 3 seed is North No. 2 seed Muskegon Community College and that game will take place May 6 at 11 a.m. from Marathon Diamonds in Findlay, Ohio.

There is no live stream for the Great Lakes District Tournaments.

GAME ONE: Macomb 7, Henry Ford 1
Deadlocked early at 1-1, the Monarchs broke free with a four-run bottom of the fourth inning on their way to a 7-1 victory. A two-run opposite field shot by Zoe Hunt got the scoring started in the fourth and held as the game-winning home run, while a two-RBI single off the bat of Carissa Dossin later made it 5-1 through four innings of play. Hunt's home run was her second of the season.

Aubrey Rich capped off the scoring with a two-RBI double down the left field line in the sixth inning.

Prior to the fourth inning theatrics and Rich's hit in the sixth, Kailey Viviano got the day started with a first inning RBI single.

Ariana Wlodeck improved to 12-6 on the season after holding the Hawks to one unearned run while striking out three batters.

Alexa Yaklin led the Monarchs with a 3-for-3 effort and two runs scored in the opener. Hunt and Rich had two hits and two RBIs each.

GAME TWO: Henry Ford 7, Macomb 2
The Monarchs had a 2-1 lead going into the top of the sixth, but the Hawks rallied with four in the inning and two more in the seventh to claim the win.

Rich was 2-for-3 with an RBI double to lead the Monarchs in game two. Jacqueline Asmar also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3, while Ryleigh Davis was 1-for-2 with an RBI double.
