VOLLEYPALOOZA MADNESS! MONARCHS UPEND OCC IN FOUR SETS!

HIGHLIGHTS: YOUTUBE

WARREN, Mich. – Oh, what a night! Macomb Volleyball hosted its first VOLLEYPALOOZA event on Wednesday (Oct. 13) and took full advantage of a raucous crowd to upset first-place Oakland Community College in four sets (27-25, 18-25, 26-24, 25-17). The win boosts the Monarchs record to 13-9 overall and 7-2 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. The visiting OCC Raiders fell to 9-12 overall and 7-2 in league play.

Macomb's victory, its fourth in a row, vaulted Mott Community College (6-1 MCCAA East) into first place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference, just ahead of the Monarchs and Raiders at 7-2 in the league.

The Monarchs earned the four-set victory over OCC behind one of their most balanced efforts of the season. In all, the Monarchs had four players record double-digits kills and four who posted 14-or-more digs, and were led in each category by Natalie Husson (Marysville, Mich./Marysville) with 12 kills and Khloee Stoll (Macomb, Mich./Anchor Bay) with 36 digs.

Husson's 12-kill night was followed closely by Ja'Nae Davis (Grand Rapids, Mich./Godwin Heights) who tallied 11 kills, while Erika Knieper (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) and Kara Lewicki (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North) slammed home 10 kills each.

The balanced attack was jump-started by another strong defensive showing as Juliana Bollini (Washington, Mich./Romeo) continued her impressive play with 24 digs, six ahead of Kara Lewicki who checked in with 18 digs to accompany 10 kills for her seventh double-double of the season. Emily Langlois (Macomb, Mich./L'Anse Creuse-North) rounded out the double-digit digs party with a career-best 14 in the four-set victory.

A NEW RECORD

Congratulations to head coach Lauren "Doogie" Duquette! Wednesday's victory set a new single-season record for wins for Coach Doogie, eclipsing her previous best of 12 wins in 2019.

The Monarchs are off until Tuesday (Oct. 19) when they visit OCC for a 7:00 p.m. league contest.
