WARREN, Mich. – The offense found a rhythm and the defense was suffocating as No. 13 Macomb Women's Basketball cruised to a 67-point, 85-18, victory in Warren on Saturday (Nov. 13) afternoon. The win evens the Monarchs record at 1-1 on the young season. Washtenaw falls to 0-1 after suffering the setback to the Monarchs in their opener.
A bit of history was made in Saturday's rout as the Monarchs earned the ninth largest margin of victory (67 points) in program history.
As the final score suggests, Saturday's game was never in doubt as the Monarchs led 27-7 after one quarter and extended their lead to a commanding 50-11 edge at the halftime break. The defense was even stronger in the second half as the Monarchs held Washtenaw scoreless in the third quarter to take a 67-11 advantage into the game's final 10 minutes of action.
Washtenaw would net seven points in the fourth quarter, while the Monarchs continued to pour it on with 18 of their own in the 85-18 victory.
Valina Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) led all scorers with a career-high 19 points, including 17 in an impressive first half effort. Hudgins was followed closely by Randi Martin (Eastpointe, Mich./Eastpointe) who poured in 11 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter. Amy Jackson (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock) checked in with 13 points, while Gabriella DiPiazza (Warren, Mich./Cousino) rounded out the double digit scorers with 11 points. In all, nine Monarchs scored in Saturday's big win.
The Monarchs will remain home for a pair of home games next week. The Blue & White host Concordia JV on Thursday (Nov. 18) at 5:30 p.m. and will turn around 24 hours later to host Adrian JV Friday (Nov. 19) at 5:30 p.m.
