WARREN, Mich. – After a strong start and a 34-29 halftime lead, Macomb Women's Basketball faltered down the stretch to fall to Concordia JV, 64-61, Thursday (Nov. 18) in Warren. The loss drops the Monarchs to 1-2 on the young season. Concordia JV remained undefeated at 3-0 after the comeback win.
After a back-and-forth start, the Monarchs pushed ahead by as many 10 points midway through the second half before earning a five-point (34-29) halftime edge. Concordia came out hot in the second half and knocked down five 3-pointers in the third quarter to get to within one entering the fourth, 54-53. The hot shooting continued for the visitors early in the fourth before the Monarch defense did their part to battle back late. In the end, Concordia would hold off a late Monarch surge to win the one possession contest.
DeBraya Edwards (Detroit, Mich./Oakland CC) paced the Monarchs with a balanced stat line of 20 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and five steals in 37 minutes of action. The 10 rebounds marked a season-high for Edwards while the 20-point night was four off her season-best of 24 points (set in the opener against Bryant & Stratton).
Amy Jackson (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock) dropped in 12 points to go along with three assists, two rebounds and a pair of steals, while Imani McGlown (Clinton Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) added a season-high 10 points and five rebounds. Valina Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) checked in with eight points and four boards and Chante Hudgins (Warren, Mich./Lincoln) pulled down seven rebounds to accompany four points in 23 minutes of action.
