WARREN, Mich. – Macomb Men's Basketball, winners of their first six games this season, fell to the visiting Vikings of Glen Oaks by a 72-68 final on Wednesday (Nov. 24) in Warren. The Monarchs battled foul trouble throughout but couldn't outlast a late Glen Oaks rally in the four-point loss. The Monarchs sit at 6-1 on the season following Wednesday's game. The Vikings improved to 4-3 with the win.
Despite being down key starters early and often, the Monarchs held a 37-30 lead at the half after Elijah Belle (Detroit, Mich./Davenport), Tariq Humes (Farmington, Mich./Elevation Prep), and Jiovanni Miles (Novi, Mich./Wisconsin-Green Bay) combined to score 27 of the team's 37 first half points. In the second half, the Monarchs – in addition to struggling from the floor – were whistled for 17 fouls compared to the Vikings' five fouls and the visitors took advantage to earn the four-point road win.
Miles led the Monarchs in points (19), rebounds (15), assists (5), and steals (2) in 37 minutes of action. Belle followed with 18 points and three assists, while Humes added 14 points and four rebounds in the setback. Jaylen Daughtery (Detroit, Mich./Mott CC) pulled down nine rebounds to go along with a pair of blocks and John Ukomadu (Southfield, Mich./Vincennes) ripped down seven boards and added three blocks in 22 minutes of play.
The Monarchs return to action Dec. 1 with a home tilt against Kellogg Community College at 7:30 p.m. Macomb Athletics will live stream the game on www.MacombMonarchs.com/Watch.
