PORT HURON, Mich. – It's win or go home time for Macomb Volleyball after the Monarchs dropped the Region XII Great Lakes A Tournament opener to the host SC4 Skippers by a 3-0 (19-25, 23-25, 12-25) final on Thursday (Nov. 4). With the setback in the tournament opener, the Monarchs shift to the loser's bracket for a 12 p.m. match Friday (Nov. 5) where they await the loser of the Edison State Community College and Oakland Community College contest.
In the double elimination tournament, the Monarchs must win out in order to win the Region XII Great Lakes A Championship and punch their ticket to the NJCAA National Championship.
On Thursday, the Monarchs were two points away from knotting up the match at one set apiece but fell just shy after the Skippers took the set by a 25-23 score. The narrow second set loss put the Monarchs in a 2-0 hole and the Skippers took advantage one set later to earn the sweep.
Erika Knieper (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) led the Monarchs with eight kills, while Kara Lewicki (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North) and Ja'Nae Davis (Grand Rapids, Mich./Godwin Heights) followed with six and five kills, respectively. Defensively, Khloee Stoll (Macomb, Mich./Anchor Bay) accounted for 21 digs and Haley Link (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North) chipped in with 10 digs.
Friday's match, as with any matches thereafter, will be streamed live on SC4's portal (https://portal.stretchinternet.com/stclaircountycc/). The stream comes with a pay-per-view charge of $7.95 (and up).
