WARREN, Mich. – Playing their first game since receiving votes in the NJCAA Division II Week One Rankings, Macomb Men's Basketball showed no signs of slowing up with a 93-68 victory over the JV Saints of Siena Heights University on Tuesday (Nov. 9) in Warren.
The 25-point victory moves the Monarchs to 4-0 overall, the best start for the program since the 2018-19 season when the Blue & White shot out to a 6-0 record under the direction of longtime head coach Jim Twigg.
After leading by a narrow 12-10 margin early, the Monarchs ended the first half on a 36-12 run to take a commanding 48-22 advantage into the locker room. In the second half, the Monarchs continued to cruise, and eventually went on to win by a 25-point cushion, on a night where all 12 active members of the roster played significant minutes.
Tariq Humes (Farmington, Mich./Elevation Prep) recorded a game-high 24 points and Elijah Belle (Detroit, Mich./Davenport) chipped in with 11 of his own.
For Humes, the 24-point night tied his career-high (in just four games played at the collegiate level). The speedy freshman guard also poured in 24 points in the Monarchs victory over Bryant & Stratton (OH) last week.
Official stats will be updated tomorrow.
